A series of photographs accompanied with a video that concers the project Inner World - Chios was presented in the most prominent cultural space in Istanbul, at DEPO. The exhibition was organized by the museum of photography in Greece and it had the support of the Consultant General of Greece.
The Inner World concerns inner spaces of the island of Chios that Stratis Vogiatzis photographed for almost three years. With this project Stratis has recorded and revealed the unaffected and transparent treasures of a genuine people’s culture which lost the battle of time and hides away from fear. He doesn’t enter the place for self-pleasure, neither does he have an ulterior motive. He goes in like a pilgrim entering a righteous and holy place of worship in order to be able to understand and feel. He strips himself of everything and puts himself into the other person’s place in order to see what the others would never see by themselves. In this way he leads us into the inner world of the homes where the decorations reflect pain and loss as well as the inspiration of life.
ç Dünya, Stratis Vogiatzis'in neredeyse üç yıl boyunca fotoğrafladığı Sakız Adası'nın iç mekânlarıyla ilgilidir. Stratis bu projeyle bir halkın, zamanla savaşında yenilen ve korkudan saklanan doğal ve şeffaf özgün kültür hazinelerini kaydetmiş ve gün yüzüne çıkarmıştır. Sanatçı mekâna ne kendini tatmin etmek için girer ne de gizli bir amacı vardır. Mekâna, bir hacının anlamak ve hissetmek için günahsız ve kutsal bir tapınağa girdiği gibi girer. Sanatçı kendini her şeyden uzaklaştırır ve başkalarının kendi başlarına göremeyeceklerini görmek için kendini başkalarının yerine koyar. Böylece bizi, dekorasyonları acıyı ve kaybı yansıttığı kadar yaşamın esin kaynağını da yansıtan evlerin iç dünyasına götürür.
