The Caravan project "Another World Is Here" officially begins

Two artists (Thekla Malamou and Stratis Vogiatzis) , will go on a journey, a passage, a caravan project all around Greece. Through the photographs, the documentaries and the narrations that we plan to collect, we aim to bring forth testimonies of people’s experiences, to create the conditions where people will come closer together through personal stories, to focus on a different way of life than the one that the mass media constantly promote, to shed light to an inspiring Greece that continues to dream and create and in that way to declare that Another World Is Here.

We believe that a different way of life is feasible in Greece and that it is all around us. All we have to do is find the time to turn around and look at it. Now, more than ever, we feel the imperative need for a new inspection of the place and way in which we live, for a new type of education and cultural space which will convey real-life stories and experiences, which leaves way for authenticity and experience so as to pass on forgotten values and to rethink about the principles which bring us closer to a more meaningful state of “wellbeing”.

“Another World Is Here” is going to function as an mobile platform of culture and with a supportive team of artists and researchers, the support of Stereosis Cultural Institute, of the Museum of Photography and the support of Panteio University of Athens, aims to fulfill the following assignments:

I. Εxtraordinary People
. A series of documentary films based on “extraordinary people”, through whose eyes will be revealed, not only the place where they live, but also their own special way of life.

II. Collection of stories. Every person is a story and the stories are what build his or her personality, from a grandmother telling a fairytale to someone’s deepest need to tell his story in order to be understood. With the question “Tell me a story that you like to narrate the most”, our aim is to record accounts of people from all over Greece

III. Remote Areas (Agoni Grami). The Remote Areas in Greece may be isolated but they are definitely not to be forgotten since they are throbbing with stories and symbols revealing a rough and difficult way of life, yet at the same time, without pretense, without violating the rhythm of nature. We believe that in these forgotten corners of Greece, there lies an invaluable civilization based on simplicity and a true wisdom, which have a lot to reveal about the national identity of Greece.

To conclude

The cultural project “Another World Is Here” is based on participation, on interaction and on diversity. It is an open invitation to people with a creative spirit, to join us with their talents, to complete us, to participate either on the journey itself or on the various areas of the production. In the journey that we are about to begin, there are no certainties nor known recipes to follow, but a strong will and conviction about our deep connection with places, events and people who will stand by us and will show us the way… “by asking questions we are moving forward” as the Zapatistas were saying.
